This was a piece of spontaneous flash writing I did on the theme of ‘bed’.
Your favourite time of day; when the stars expand across the sky and the moonlight peeks in through the window. You get up to reclose the curtains – left then right – always the same way. My arm holds you close as you nestle against my skin – your body quiet as your mind slows down – as if commanded by the ticking clock on your bedside.
I watch your eyelids flutter close and a sleepy calmness fills your body, down to your toes. I hold my breath so as not to disturb your peace. Platelets collide and cells multiply but you are blissfully unaware, creating words inside your head.
My eyes burn holes through your skin but they are unnoticed while your soft hair is a delicate butterfly on my shoulder.
