the end of the beginning

‘Is it odd,’ she inquired, ‘How ever since I met you I’ve noticed everything in so much clarity, in intense brightness; as if someone has turned up the dial on my life to full volume?’

‘Not at all,’ I smiled, noticing how you exhale mid-speech and your breath forms soft clouds in the air. I watch it billow out, contorting and twisting in the breeze while wisps settle around us both in a fine mist.
