dance in your dreams

If your breathing starts to slow

and your heart begins to flutter

your words stick in your throat

and your kneecaps judder

remember the nights we spent together

dancing and laughing and loving together

and all those dreams of you i had

fights about who loved who more

races to clasp each nervous hand

i could never find the right words to try to make you understand

so when your heartbeat starts to slow and the beeping becomes a flatline

remember these words whispered during your sleep,

remember the songs sung in your ear

remember the wishes on a shooting star,

the drunken nights in the back of your car,

remember the fights, the love, and the laughs

remember the way we danced the same dance.
